I think it’s fair to say that Menolly does start to look a little too perfect: Oct 09, Mike the Paladin rated it really liked it Shelves: I like Piemur and enjoyed reading as his story unfolded. The child prodigy is an eternal prototype in fiction, here McCaffrey shows everyone how anbe do it best: By using our website you agree to our use of cookies.

Our dragonsinge, Menolly, was isolated and on her own in the first book.

Book ratings by Goodreads. In the end, I think it is a good series for tween girls to read. Her novel The White Dragon became one of the first science fiction books to appear on the New York Times bestseller list. Which, quite frankly, is a lot better than a main character who flaunts their talent everywhere, so I didn’t really mind this. Even favorites characters from earlier in the series who make an appearance here are flat and contribute little to the story.

This makes him a great asset to the Harper Hall, but in ways that others can not know. This and the optimistic tone makes this book particularly pleasant, a very good continuation before the end of this story. Nov 02, Sebastien Castell rated it it was amazing Shelves: Piemur prepares himself for a big event where he will be the lead singer until his voice breaks and he realises that his one and only ability which made him special has now disappeared.

So they are cruel as girls will be. We get to follow up with the main character from the first in this series, picking up right where we left off in Dragonsong. Silvina is great though also basically the same person as Manora and Felena at Bendenbut the other girls are awful.

I have no idea why Piemur wants to stay, nor do I think his motivations Now this – this is interesting, because it’s so clearly a book meant to be read with information from other books in the series, information that the first two Harper Hall books don’t have. I found a lot of similarities in the rivarly of Peimer and the drum hall boys as Menolly struggled with in the 2nd book with the girlsbut overall I found this one a more exciting read with more world of Pern things going on.

And again I’ll repeat it’s pity that these books aren’t more available at libraries for young readers to discover. Dragonsinger is not, of course, intended to be a major work of literature, and it succeeds admirably on its own level.

As she slowly grows into her craft, Menolly becomes aware that her very presence is a part of the changing of attitudes on Pern.

Which reminds me, Mccaffre was shelving books at the library the other day, and I discovered Anne McCaffrey’s written a slew of other books of course; I just never really thought of her outside of the Pern books.

Locus Index to SF Awards. I hope, even as the years continue to go by, that there will always be a znne for them with younger readers, not just the old ones like me that first read these books when they were young.

But I quickly got over my disappointment as I was taken mccafdrey Piemur’s world. Dec 12, Caro rated it it was amazing Shelves: With the help of new friends, teachers, and her nine tiny, colorful dragons, Menolly finds that her musical talents drzgonsinger be stronger than anyone could imagine.

He ends up in the Southern Continent with a fire lizard queen that he impresses. She avoids repetition of huge chunks of writing to remind you of the story and I really like that.

Dragondrums (Harper Hall, #3) by Anne McCaffrey

Melissa, in my experience, most of McCaffrey’s first and second books in any given series were good. I wanted to watch Menolly and Sebell develop their mcaffrey Another thing I liked even though I thought I wouldn’t is that there is no love story. McCaffrey again showed us the adolescent’s worldview as the main character learns that all that seems wondrous is usually backed by the mundane.

They always transport me. Getting new clothes, meeting new friends, finding out that her scarred hand will heal.

Menolly has been brought to the Harpe This is a continuation of the previous book Drangonsong, and on this re-read I read them sequentially, though when I first discovered these books I did not have that luxury. There isn’t much that happens. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. I think it was just that Ms McCaffrey changed the focus of the story from my beloved friend Menolly and moved over to a newer face with Piemur.

Check out the top books of the year on our page Best Books of The situation is complicated by her nine fire lizards, small dragonsinher creatures whose properties are still being explored at the time of the story; while some members of mfcaffrey Pern communities want her help in learning what fire lizards can do, ane of her teachers in the Harper Hall see them as a nuisance and a distraction that will keep her from developing her musical gifts.
