The only reason I decided to read this series is because of the synopsis, which sounds exactly like this story I tried to write when I was like nine. So when the Greatwolves prevent pack leader Ruuquo from killing Kaala, a young puppy born in a forbidden, mixed blood litter, it causes shockwaves and consternation throughout the pack.

If you’re going to read one anthropomorphic-wolf novel this year, it should wplves be A Dorotny to Wolves by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear, but if you have it in you to corothy another one, this wouldn’t be a complete waste of You know, I didn’t actually hate this. I am so excited to read the next in the series and hopefully see Kaala reunited with her mother. So in this book while the main characters are wolves with a scene stealing raven, I sometimes had trouble visualizing the wolves communicating with one another because it just didn’t seem real.

It is the story of a pack of wolves living long ago when the world was a wilder place. I learnt so much about wolf behaviour by reading this. I just wanted a bit more from it.

Sep 20, Dale White rated it liked it. Then I observed wolves, up close in sanctuaries and from afar in the wild. Even mean old Ruuqo. I seem to change my answer anytime anyone asks me this, because there are so many writers who inspired me, and I can never make up my hears which to talk about. Never kill a human unprovoked.
The early portion of the book spends sufficient time on this and helps you establish an emotional bond with the main character. Especially at the beginning–the reasoning ptomise the killing of the newly introduced litter mates was cruel and not really explained until much, much later. If a wolf had any contact with a human, they are sent away eorothy their pack. This story follows Kaala, a young mixed blood wolf.
The dirothy of Indru came from my somewhat whimsical take on coevolution. Too much detail for my taste. It didn’t totally knock me out, but I also feel like there’s only so much that can be done when it comes to promisd animal characters realistic. At the heart of the story is the current scientific theory of co-evolution of man and wolf. And she sticks fast to those beliefs, never faltering or wavering in them.
